GTA 6 Gameplay & Features: Everything Confirmed
Rockstar has now shown real gameplay and detailed how Grand Theft Auto VI plays. Here's a clear rundown of everything confirmed so far — from the dual-protagonist structure to the side activities and the living world around them.
The August 2026 gameplay reveal
On August 27, 2026, Rockstar released an extended look at GTA 6 — just over 20 minutes of gameplay. It debuted on Netflix before going out to YouTube, and it was the first proper look at the game in motion rather than cinematic trailers. It showcased Vice City and Leonida, the two protagonists in action, driving and combat, and a slice of the open world's density and detail.
Two protagonists, one story
You play as Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a criminal couple Rockstar compares to Bonnie and Clyde. You can switch between them freely, play long stretches as either one solo, or control both together during shared scenarios — including driver-and-passenger setups where one drives while the other handles the action. For the full character breakdown, see our GTA 6 characters page.
Missions & crime
Expect the series' signature mix, built bigger: heists, high-speed car chases, and protection jobs, alongside the open-world chaos GTA is known for. The reveal leaned into the couple's escalating crime spree across Leonida as the backbone of the campaign.
Side activities
Activities Rockstar has shown in the trailers and the August gameplay reveal. This is what's been shown so far, not a final or exhaustive list — expect more (and some changes) before launch.
A living, reactive world
Rockstar is leaning hard into immersion. NPCs react to what you do rather than following fixed scripts, and the characters themselves change over time — diet, exercise, and sleep affect their appearance. Layer on an expansive weather system and a world reported to be considerably larger than GTA V's, and the open world is designed to feel alive whether or not you're on a mission.
Radio & music
The radio returns and expands: Rockstar has revealed radio stations that include on-demand podcasts — a first for the series — alongside the usual licensed music. Rockstar has also announced an official soundtrack album of original music, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. See our radio & soundtrack page for the confirmed stations and details.
