GTA 6 Release Date & Everything We Know

Updated June 2026

After more than a decade of waiting, Grand Theft Auto VI finally has a firm release date. Below is a clear, no-hype rundown of everything Rockstar Games has officially confirmed so far — and where the line sits between fact and speculation.

When does GTA 6 come out?

GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026. That date is the current one listed on Rockstar's official materials, arrived at after two delays — the game was originally targeted for 2025, then moved to May 2026, before settling on the November date for final polish. As of mid-2026, Take-Two has repeatedly reaffirmed the timeline, and the marketing campaign is already underway, which makes another delay unlikely at this stage.

What platforms is it on?

At launch, GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It's a current-generation title — there are no announced versions for PS4 or Xbox One. A PC version has not been officially confirmed. Based on Rockstar's long-standing pattern with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, a PC release is widely expected to follow roughly one to two years after the console launch, which would put it somewhere in 2027–2028. If you're a PC player, that's the realistic expectation to plan around.

Where is GTA 6 set?

The game returns to Vice City, Rockstar's Miami-inspired metropolis, now dragged into the modern day. Vice City sits within a larger fictional state called Leonida, modeled on Florida. Beyond the city itself, the map includes a range of regions: the Everglades-style wetlands known as the Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys, the town of Port Gellhorn, the Mount Kalaga National Park, and an area called Ambrosia. The world is reported to be considerably larger than GTA V's, though Rockstar has not published official size figures, so treat any specific number you see online with caution until it's confirmed.

Who are the protagonists?

For the first time in a mainline entry, GTA 6 features two playable protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Lucia is the series' first non-optional female lead. The two are a criminal couple whose story Rockstar has likened to Bonnie and Clyde — Jason is a former soldier who fell in with drug runners in the Leonida Keys, while Lucia grew up in Liberty City and served time in Leonida Penitentiary. Players can switch between them, and at certain points control both together during open-world scenarios.

Pre-orders and price

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, available both digitally and physically. Rockstar has confirmed a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition, the latter bundling premium vehicles, apparel, and other extras. Final pricing is confirmed at the pre-order launch — the standard edition has been widely expected to land around the $80 mark, so check Rockstar's store for the exact figure in your region.

Will there be a GTA Online?

An online component is expected to launch alongside or shortly after the main game, set within the new world of Leonida. Current expectation is that it will be a fresh start rather than a transfer of progress from GTA V's online mode. Rockstar has indicated the existing GTA Online will keep receiving support for a time before a new online platform tied to GTA 6 takes over.
